Consider your low intensity walk as ‘Active Recovery’. This is a gentle way to exercise your body and get blood circulating rather than laying on the couch because you are sore from the previous day’s exercise. It is false to think that the best way to recover is to do nothing, as blood flow will help remove waste products and provide nutrients to muscles, connective tissue and joints.
Exercising first thing in the morning when blood glucose is low will have you predominantly burning fat as fuel and is a great way to start your day. However, that being said you may exercise after you eat in the evening at this low intensity to help you with digestion and increase your daily activity. We just want you to find exercise in activity. For instance playing with the kids, pets, gardening with a conscious effort to exercise and move and not just take your time ‘doodling’.
The aim of this session is to burn some calories from fat as well as get your body moving to remove waste products so there are many ways to do this and by no means does it need to just be a walk, you may choose a body balance class, light cycle, some shadow boxing or a mobility circuit.
Bottomline, is to get active and find ways to be active during your day. You may choose to break up your 60 minutes into 3 x20 or even 6 x 10 if needed!
Enjoy moving your body today guys!
